Our Mission

It is the mission of Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas to ensure equal justice for low-income people through the provision of high-quality legal representation and to improve the lives of low-income Texans through the rule of law.

Our History

Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas has a long history of serving the community. Our first office, in Fort Worth, was founded in 1951 by the Tarrant County Bar Association. The Dallas office was established in 1966. LANWT has operated under several different names as we've grown over the years, and adopted the Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas name in 2003 through the merger of Legal Services of North Texas and West Texas Legal Services.

LANWT Today

Today, we employ more than 150 attorneys, supported by a staff of more than 100 paralegals, social workers, secretaries, receptionists, and support staff. An additional team of part-time attorneys staff a statewide legal hotline to help broaden our ability to assist those in rural areas.
